this is NOT what I voted for.....

Call me stupid, but when President Obama was swept into office with a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress, I expected change. Not just a little change. I mean a sea-change that would last for a generation or more. Kind of like when FDR came into office during the Great Depression.

Unfortunately, none of this has happened. They won't repeal DADT even though polls show the majority of Americans support that move. They couldn't come up with a health care plan, even though polls showed almost 70% of Americans favored some kind of public option. They've allowed the repuglicans to steamroll over them time and again.

Now we have the Patriot Act, which was renewed by Congress this week. Really? The same Patriot Act that a lot of Democrats were bitching about during the campaign? The same Patriot Act that most members of Congress haven't even read?

A simple reading of the provisions of this act would show that it makes spying on American citizens much easier. All a government official has to say is "I suspect __________ is a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer."

Hey, I'm for surveillance on anyone who is plotting a terrorist attack, or is assisting someone to plot a terrorist attack. But, shouldn't the government have to work for it a little? Just a little? Isn't that what the Constitution is all about?
