the most honest thing I've heard a Prop H8 supporter say.....

You may have heard that a motion to dismiss the federal lawsuit against Prop H8 was denied.

Chief Justice Vaughn Walker of the US District Court for Northern California issued the ruling today.

Prop H8 attorney Chuck Cooper kept returning to his argument that the state has a vested interest in promoting "natural procreative relationships of opposite sex couples to produce the next generation of citizens."

Walker kept hammering Cooper with questions about how same-sex marriage in anyway threatens opposite sex marriage. He also pointed out that the state clearly doesn't include having children as a requirement for marriage since he, himself, had just married an opposite couple, one in her 80's and the other in his 90's. The judge also pointed out that almost 40% of pregnancies are to single women, and the state obviously doesn't have a requirement to be married to have children in the first place.

But here comes the good stuff. When Walker asked Cooper directly how same-sex marriage negatively impacts opposite-sex marriage, Cooper astonished the courtroom by saying, "My answer is, I don't know." He also conceded that there is no evidence where same-sex marriage is legal that it has any relevance to opposite-sex marriage whatsoever. But, he said the state has the right to say "no" to same-sex marriage, and stand back and watch how it plays out in jurisdictions where it is legal.

So, Mr. Cooper, your entire argument in support of Prop H8 is that same-sex marriage somehow negatively impacts opposite-sex marriages. But, when pressed, you can't come up with a shred of evidence that it actually does. And, by the way, Massachusetts has had legal same-sex marriage for what? Five years now? And doesn't Massachusetts have the lowest divorce rate in the nation? By your own arguments, you are proving the case that opposition to same-sex marriage is based solely on animus toward gay people, and you will lose this fight.

I'm feeling pretty good about the way things are going in this lawsuit. Judge Walker, by the way, is not your typical San Francisco screaming liberal. He is known as an independent conservative, and was appointed by President George H.W. Bush.

This thing has been popping up all over the bearborhood today. I think Joe My God was the first to post. Anyway, I thought I would hop on the bandwagon. The "lead singer" is very very woofy

New Anti-Smoking Ads Warn Teens 'It's Gay To Smoke'

Ahh, the sweet stench of hypocrisy. Gotta love it.

The University of North Texas student government has voted to bar same-sex couples from running as homecoming king/queen.

This is Texas you say? Why am I surprised you say?

Because the University of North Texas is the most notoriously gay university in the state of Texas. Even when I was going to college in Texas in the 70's, the university (then known as North Texas State University) was famous for the amount of queerness going on in its hallowed halls. The number one major there is "Art" and the number two major is "Music." Give me a fucking break.

The second most notoriously gay school in Texas is the Baptist-run Baylor University. Full of sweet little Baptist boys who sit in the pews on Sunday morning, after taking it up the ass on Saturday night.

Just got done watching the series premiere of Cougartown on ABC. OMG, if this is the kind of eye candy they'll be serving up, there's no doubt it will be my new favorite show.

why does my 'dar go off every time I hear an opponent of marriage equality speak?

I swear to God, every time I hear one of these haters talk, I get the feeling he's a big old closet case. This guy is the repuglican candidate for New Jersey Governor. And I can just picture him pulling some lingerie out of his closet, painting his nails, applying lipstick, and singing "I Feel Pretty" in the mirror.

Any chasers ever run into this guy at Convergence or EBMC?

Dallas judge rules Texas same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional

A state district judge in Dallas has ruled in favor of a same-sex couple, who were married in another jurisdiction, and want to get a divorce in Texas.

The judge ruled that the state's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it violates the equal protection clause of the US Constitution, and ordered that the couple be allowed to get divorced in Texas.

This doesn't have any effect on the Texas law banning same-sex marriage. That's up to the state Supreme Court, which will never come to the same conclusion. However, it's nice to see that, even in Texas, some judges have an understanding of the Constitution.
