So this is kind of a good news-bad news-good news thing.

The Des Moines Register recently commissioned a poll to determine attitudes toward marriage equality in Iowa since the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year. The good news is that 92% of the respondents said that marriage equality had absolutely NO effect on their lives whatsoever.

BUT, in the same poll, 41% of the respondents said they would vote for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and override the Supreme Court's decision. So, let me get this straight Mr. and Mrs. 41%. You admit that marriage equality has absolutely NO effect on your life whatsoever, but you would STILL vote to take away the right to marry from your fellow citizens? What kind of hateful asshole are you?????

The other bit of good news is that 40% would vote NO on said constitutional amendment, and who would have thought that percentage would be so high, in Iowa of all places? The other good news is that the Iowa constitution is very difficult to amend. By the time any amendment gets to the voters, if ever, I'm sure attitudes will have changed even more.

"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." -- John Adams

Interesting article from Bloomberg on the state of Canadian health care vis a vis our American system. The truth is, despite being held up as an example of how horrible government-run health care systems are, the Canadian system is, at least as good as, if not better, than the American system, at a much lower cost.

On a personal anecdotal level, I know a handful of Canadians, and Australians, and Europeans. And not one of them would trade their system for ours.

Note to "David" on Silverdaddies.....

Unfortunately, you've stumbled into one of my biggest pet peeves of the gay Internet personals industry: the unrepentant breeder.

I love the way you start your profile text with "I don't like to kiss men because my primary sexual attraction is toward women." But then, you proceed to tell us how you're strictly a bottom, how you love to get fucked, how you love cock, both cut and uncut, and how you love to have a guy dump a load in your mouth.

Oh, and the carrot sticking out of your ass is a nice touch.

You, sir, are the recipient of the Boy's in the Band's "You're just a homosexual and you don't want to be" award.

Another "Family Values" Hypocrite

Another hateful homophobe caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

54 year old California Assemblyman Michael Duvall (R (of course) - Orange County) is caught talking on a hot mike about an affair he is having with a woman 19 years his junior. Apparently spanking is one of his guilty pleasures. There's also a reference to another woman he is also having an affair with.

Enjoy!
From CNN: For a minimum $25,000, one can bid for a private dinner with Sarah Palin, with the proceeds going to charity.

I wonder if she'll pick Cracker Barrel, Old Country Buffet, or Golden Corral. Perhaps she'll just shoot up some food herself.

Labor Day Weekend

Well it didn't really turn out like I planned.

I had made plans to go to Portland this weekend. I was going to take Thursday and Friday off and drive up there. Mainly because the Hairrison Fair, which is always held on Labor Day weekend was canceled this year. A couple of big sponsors pulled out because of the recession.

Anyway, the reason I chose Portland, number 1, is because I have never been there. Never been to Oregon for that matter. I've been to 48 of the 50 states, with Oregon and South Carolina being the only two holdouts. So I figured I could knock another state off my list.

The other reason I wanted to go to Portland is because the Oregon Bears are having some events this weekend, including bear day at the local nude beach, which was today. Tonight, there's a big bear party at one of the local bear bars. Apparently, there are at least a couple of bear bars there.

But, alas, I won't be there. A week full of IT problems that basically screwed up our office, combined with the obligatory "I need this report back by COB Friday" demands from corporate, along with an unscheduled visit from out VP of television pretty much dumped those plans in the shitter.

On top of all that, the Bay Bridge is closed this weekend for the seismic reconstruction project. They're building an entirely new span between Treasure Island and Oakland so it won't fall into the bay during the next big earthquake. That pretty much stranded me on my lovely island home of Alameda. It hasn't been that bad, though. I've been relaxing and watching a lot of tv.

All is not lost. I'm relocating Casa Freddybear to a hotel on the peninsula tonight. I'll have a couple of days of fun in the city before having to go back to work on Tuesday and start it all over again.

My Eyes Adored You.....

I can only imagine what the guy behind him in the stands is thinking......
