The state of Wisconsin has a constitutional amendment defining "marriage" as between a man and a woman. No big distinction there. Many states have it.

Recently, the state legislature passed a domestic partnership registry granting same-sex couples certain rights, such as hospital visitation, inheritance, etc. Nothing about marriage. Just a little dignity.

As usual, the haters are out in force. The hater organization Wisconsin Family Council has asked the state Supreme Court to invalidate the law.

Along comes repuglican Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, who has stated that he will not defend the law because it "goes against the will of the people." This move will require the state to bring in outside counsel to defend the law before the Supreme Court.

The Wisconsin A.G., like all the other haters, don't want same-sex couples to have the barest sliver of respect and dignity. And that's why we fight for marriage equality.

note to the guy with an HRC sticker AND truck nuts on the back of his pickup

OH Honey No! That doesn't work for you. It's bad enough that you're driving a pickup truck in the first place. But truck nuts? That's just over the top. Only lesbians are qualified for that.

Hope this guy isn't a truck driver.....

24 husky latino bear,5'5,220lbs and tattooed ISO a woman who would like to join me for some tina cloud blowin then some hot naughty sexy fun before I head to work today.

NOT ONE DIME.....

All this week I've been getting missed calls from a business called Telefund in Austin, Texas. They always called when I wasn't near the phone, and never left a message, so I didn't know what the hell they wanted.

Finally, today, they called when I was near the phone. The gentleman said he was calling from the DNC, and they were raising funds to fight the right-wing ad campaign against Obama's health plan.

He asked if I was prepared to help the DNC with a $200 donation. He sounded rather flustered when I said "absolutely not."

I explained that I will not support the Democrats until Obama quits shitting on the GLBT community. He said, "well that is an important and controversial issue but...." At that point I cut him off and said "kind of like black civil rights was an important and controversial issue as well."

I went on to say that I didn't expect marriage equality overnight, but Obama isn't even fighting the easy fights like repealing DADT (supported by the majority of Americans). And his justice department was way too strident in defending DOMA during the recent court challenge. The hateful language in that brief sounded like something out of Pat Robertson, not our "ardent advocate" in the White House.

I also reminded the guy that the last time I heard, the Democrats control the House, the Senate, and the White House, so grow a pair and get this thing passed.

He kept trying to separate the GLBT issues from the health care issue and I told him that I would not support the DNC until I see some action that is important to ME. NOT ONE DIME!

He politely thanked me for my time and previous support and hung up. I know it's an insignificant thing in the scheme of things, but it felt good.

you think?

For those who haven't figured it out yet, the American Psychological Association has issued a report which debunks the notion the gays and lesbians can change their sexual orientation, and, more importantly, that "reparative therapy" does not work and can cause irreparable harm.

The report chronicles studies dating back to the 1960's, and it concludes that there is little evidence to support the notion that gays and lesbians can change their sexual orientation through therapy. Rather, it recommends that therapists treat their patients in a way that will help them accept themselves as they are.

Religion's role in causing mental health issues for gays and lesbians is discussed. Psychologists should help gays and lesbians come to terms with their religions, or better yet, find a different church.

Why is this important? Because as long as the right-wing nutjobs can get away with saying being gay is a "choice," then protections for gays and lesbians under the law will be fought. Only when it is accepted that being gay is as innate as being black, will we truly be treated as equals.

note to the jerk driving the rolls royce on the southbound 101 near sfo today.....

Perhaps you missed the class in polite society school where they taught that flaunting your wealth is gauche and nouveau riche.

The very fact that you own a Rolls disqualifies you from having a license plate holder emblazoned with "POVERTY SUCKS." Very Gordon Gekko of you. I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't have that in mind when he said "if thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven."

Oh, and, by the way. The expired in June 2009 registration was a classic touch. It sent out a nice "the law doesn't apply to the rich" message. Nice.
