What a difference a president makes.....

"Washington -- President Barack Obama said Monday the threat of spreading swine flu infections is a matter of concern, but not a cause for alarm."
How refreshing it is to have a president who expresses concern without pushing the panic button.
Can you imagine how the former president's hench people would have handled this? They would have notched up the colored security alerts (I haven't even seen one of those lately), they would have blamed it on terrorism, and basically create a climate of fear so that everyone would be shitting their pants.
Way to go President Barack Hussein Obama. That's the way to lead.

OK, at first glance, this thing looks a little kinky/scary. But it's something to put on the tip of your finger to use instead of a stylus for things like Blackberry's and such.

would you like some hate with your gas?

A gas station in Rim Forest, California dispenses receipts which proclaim that marriage is between a man and a woman.

I find it unbelievable that a business owner would do this. When I was growing up, my step-dad owned a furniture store in town. And he would have NEVER gotten involved publicly in any political issue. There's a good reason for this: he didn't want to potentially offend any of his customers.

Business owners don't seem to have that same common sense today. During the Prop H8 campaign, I saw at least two delivery trucks with Yes on H8 signs on the back.

As a citizen, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. But, as a business owner, you must expect retribution for expressing views on a controversial subject in a business setting. After all, you're going to piss off a good chunk of your clients and potential clients.

Rim Forest is in Riverside County, so I'm not all that surprised some idiot gas station owner would put this message on a receipt. Had I received such a receipt, there would have been an ugly scene inside the gas station.

It's hard to talk when you're teabagging....Tell me about it!

My favorite line of the week is from Anderson Cooper....

After weeks of being absent from the city, Gavin Newsom made it official today. He's running for California Governor.

Not so long ago, I would have given him the proverbial snowball's chance in hell of winning anything outside of San Francisco. But, it sure seems like the country is rapidly leaning more progressive since the election. Californians even granted farm animals rights, while they stripped away my right to marry, in the last election.

Speaking of which, I'm still a little pissed off at Gavin for his arrogant "whether you like it or not" remark which became a cornerstone of the Prop 8 campaign. It's possible that little lack of judgment may have thrown Prop 8 over the top.

He might have a shot at this. He's done a fairly OK job as mayor. He has a certain celebrity status, and Californians seem to like celebrity governors. My one big gripe is all the bums on the streets, which he hasn't really done anything about. That problem needs to be cleaned up. Perhaps Gavin should channel a little Rudy Giuliani for the task. But stay away from the drag. I don't think Gavin would make a good drag queen.

Geeeezus Christ who the fuck cares what kind of dog President Barack Hussein Obama got his kids????

I am so sick of the right wingers sniping at the president about every little bullshit thing. Teleprompters, giving the queen an I-Pod, now the dog he got his kids.

I guess you know you're doing a pretty good job if all they can throw at you is made up bullshit.

All the right wingers are just showing their ass with this kind of crap.

Get over it. You fucked it up. You lost. Now let President Obama get on with the business of fixing the mess you guys created!

Lessons I've Learned From Gay Porn.....

If you wear your arm in a fake sling, the hottie hitchhiker you pick up will hold your penis while you pee. And that can lead to all kinds of hot fun in the back of your pickup truck.

Yay Vermont!

Way to go!

The Vermont legislature has overridden the hater's veto.

That makes Vermont the first state to enact marriage equality through legislative action.

California did it TWICE but it was vetoed both times by Arnie.

I'm very proud of Vermont and Iowa. Vermont is a beautiful state. The last time I was there was for some leaf peeping in 2001. Iowa is not so beautiful, but I love it anyway right now.
Hater Vermont Governor vetoes marriage equality bill.

Senate overrides veto

Now it's up to the House.

Come on Vermont. Do the right thing. You know it's only a matter of time before this happens. Why not just get it over with?

I don't think we'll be seeing any anti-marriage equality amendments coming out of the Iowa legislature anytime soon.....

Pat Murphy, Iowa Speaker of the House

Mike Gronstal, Iowa Senate Majority Leader

This is a joint statement from Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal and Iowa House Speaker Pat Murphy on today’s Supreme Court decision:

"Thanks to today’s decision, Iowa continues to be a leader in guaranteeing all of our citizens’ equal rights. The court has ruled today that when two Iowans promise to share their lives together, state law will respect that commitment, regardless of whether the couple is gay or straight.

When all is said and done, we believe the only lasting question about today’s events will be why it took us so long. It is a tough question to answer because treating everyone fairly is really a matter of Iowa common sense and Iowa common decency. Today, the Iowa Supreme Court has reaffirmed those Iowa values by ruling that gay and lesbian Iowans have all the same rights and responsibilities of citizenship as any other Iowan.

Iowa has always been a leader in the area of civil rights. In 1839, the Iowa Supreme Court rejected slavery in a decision that found that a slave named Ralph became free when he stepped on Iowa soil, 26 years before the end of the Civil War decided the issue. In 1868, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that racially segregated “separate but equal” schools had no place in Iowa, 85 years before the U.S. Supreme Court reached the same decision. In 1873, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled against racial discrimination in public accommodations, 91 years before the U.S. Supreme Court reached the same decision. In 1869, Iowa became the first state in the union to admit women to the practice of law. In the case of recognizing loving relationships between two adults, the Iowa Supreme Court is once again taking a leadership position on civil rights.

Today, we congratulate the thousands of Iowans who now can express their love for each other and have it recognized by our laws."

Today was a great day for justice and equality in America. Not only did the Iowa Supreme Court strike down the law that limits marriage to a man and a woman, the Vermont House passed the bill allowing marriage equality in that state.

The Vermont marriage equality bill is far from certain. The repuglican governor has promised to veto the bill, and it's uncertain if there are enough votes to override the veto.

And the right wing nutjobs are gearing up for a fight to overturn the Iowa Supreme Court ruling by getting a constitutional amendment on the ballot. Fortunately, the Iowa constitution is much harder to amend (as it should be) than California's. That's why the older Iowa constitution has only 50 amendments compared to over 500 for California.

An Iowa constitutional amendment requires approval of both the senate and the house for two consecutive legislative sessions before the amendment goes to the voters. The earliest such a vote could come is 2012, by which time the voters will have seen the sky hasn't fallen and the world hasn't come to an end.

So, I'll take a moment to feel good about today. Another step forward in the march toward marriage equality.

The right wing nutjobs can't stand the fact that we're winning the "culture war," a war which they started.

Yes, we have had our defeats as well as our victories. But, time is in our favor. Every year, there's a little more progress.

I remember not too long ago when Vermont's Civil Union law was considered radical. Now, almost everyone supports civil unions, though not necessarily marriage for gays and lesbians.

It's only a matter of time. We SHALL overcome and have marriage equality in this country.

IOWA SAYS YES TO MARRIAGE EQUALITY. WAY TO GO IOWA!

In a unanimous decision, the Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that Iowa's law limiting marriage to a man and a woman violates the constitution.

In it's ruling, the court stated "If gay and lesbian people must submit to different treatment without an exceedingly persuasive justification, they are deprived of the benefits of the principle of equal protection upon which the rule of law is founded."

Gee, that sounds vaguely familiar. Oh yeah, that's the exact argument California's Supreme Court used last year when they ruled in favor of marriage equality.

I wonder how long it will be before the right wing nutjobs of the Mormon-Catholic coalition will try to amend their constitution. Hopefully, it's a lot harder to amend Iowa's constitution than California's.
