A state district judge in Dallas has ruled in favor of a same-sex couple, who were married in another jurisdiction, and want to get a divorce in Texas.
The judge ruled that the state's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it violates the equal protection clause of the US Constitution, and ordered that the couple be allowed to get divorced in Texas.
This doesn't have any effect on the Texas law banning same-sex marriage. That's up to the state Supreme Court, which will never come to the same conclusion. However, it's nice to see that, even in Texas, some judges have an understanding of the Constitution.
