After weeks of being absent from the city, Gavin Newsom made it official today. He's running for California Governor.

Not so long ago, I would have given him the proverbial snowball's chance in hell of winning anything outside of San Francisco. But, it sure seems like the country is rapidly leaning more progressive since the election. Californians even granted farm animals rights, while they stripped away my right to marry, in the last election.

Speaking of which, I'm still a little pissed off at Gavin for his arrogant "whether you like it or not" remark which became a cornerstone of the Prop 8 campaign. It's possible that little lack of judgment may have thrown Prop 8 over the top.

He might have a shot at this. He's done a fairly OK job as mayor. He has a certain celebrity status, and Californians seem to like celebrity governors. My one big gripe is all the bums on the streets, which he hasn't really done anything about. That problem needs to be cleaned up. Perhaps Gavin should channel a little Rudy Giuliani for the task. But stay away from the drag. I don't think Gavin would make a good drag queen.
