A Sign Of The Apocalypse?

The right wing X-tian nuts believe one day the stars will align, they will be "raptured" (a word not in the Bible), and the rest of us will be left behind to fend for ourselves during a seven year period of tribulation, which will culminate in the great battle of Armageddon, which will usher in a 1,000 year millennial reign of peace on Earth.

They know all of this is just around the corner. It could be tomorrow. It could be today. It will be soon, because the "signs" tell them so. Of course, they've been saying this for years. But the world has gone on.

But now, something has happened that makes me pause for a second. Maybe they're right. Pat Robertson, in a CNN interview, criticized George Bush, and had high praise for President-elect Obama. Pat Robertson???? Really?????

So many of Robertson's ilk have supported Bush just because of his "faith." It didn't matter the man is a bumbling idiot. It didn't matter that he lied us into a war. It didn't matter that he completed the job started by their demi-god Ronald Reagan by destroying the economy, and the middle-class along with it. Bush had "faith" and that was good enough for them.

Robertson gives Bush a C- as a president. He complains Bush botched Iraq, botched Katrina, and botched the economy. Of Obama, he says he is "remarkably pleased" and that he believes Obama has "the makings of a great president."

That's got to be a sign the end is near. The forecast is calling for raining frogs and hail the size of houses.

That damned Gay Agenda keeps rearing its' ugly head. This time with Campbell's Soup.

The American Family Association is pissed off at Campbell's because they dared to purchase several full page ads in the Advocate, one of which featured a lesbian couple with their youngster. The AFA is also not pleased that Campbell's scored 100% on the HRC Corporate Equality Index.

In their press release, the AFA said that Campbell's is "helping homosexual activists push their agenda trying to convince others that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support."

I can't think of anything that underscores the righteousness of the fight for marriage equality more than that sentence.

OK, it's been a couple of days now, and I'm really over the whole Rick Warren controversy thing. Yes, it's true the man is a homophobic bigot. But, his face recently appeared on a taco in Detroit. And that makes him OK in my book.

Hot Stuff

I have a new celebrity to lust after. At least he's new to me. Steve Wallace, the NASCAR driver.

I don't follow hillbilly sports, so I never heard of this guy until this weekend. He's been all over the telly on those commercials for 5 Hour Energy shots. All I can say is, vrooom vrooom, he really revs my engine.

He has kind of a Prince Harry meets Bo Duke thing going on.

And, speaking of Prince Harry. who is one of my favorite spooge fantasies, I found a picture from
Afghanistan......

He's kind of grubby looking, but there's something about this pic that is very hot.

White Trash Tales

Bristol Palin's trashy future mother-in-law was arrested by the Alaska state troopers Thursday on narcotics charges. The troopers served a search warrant at Sherry Johnston's home at the conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation. She was charged with six felony counts involving a controlled substance.

Now that the election's over, I have to wonder what the fuck that whole Sarah Palin thing was about. What was John McCain thinking when he brought that white trash circus freak show into his campaign? I haven't seen anything that trashy since Billy Carter.

By the way, the knocked up Bristol Palin is due this weekend. I wonder why she and Levi haven't tied the knot yet? Isn't that what a traditional family is supposed to do? Get married before the baby arrives? Maybe ol' Levi (or Bristol) is having a change of heart.

Brown Says Prop 8 Must Be Overturned....

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

(12-19) 19:43 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- State Attorney General Jerry Brown, in a surprise turnabout, asked the California Supreme Court on Friday to overturn Proposition 8, saying the voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage violates basic rights guaranteed in the state Constitution.

Brown, who is required to defend state laws unless he cannot find reasonable legal grounds to do so, said after Prop. 8 passed Nov. 4 that he would support the initiative before the state's high court.

But in a lengthy filing late Friday, he argued that the measure was "inconsistent with the guarantees of individual liberty" in California's governing charter.

"Proposition 8 must be invalidated because the amendment process cannot be used to extinguish fundamental constitutional rights without compelling justification," Brown said.

The authors of the state Constitution, he said, did not intend "to put a group's right to enjoy liberty to a popular vote."

Asked about his change of position, Brown said Friday evening that since his initial comments the day after the election, in which he said he would defend Prop 8, he and senior lawyers in his office have looked closely at the court's precedents and at the recent marriage ruling and concluded they couldn't defend Prop. 8.

"We have a conflict between the amendment power (through voter initiatives) and the duty of the Supreme Court to protect minorities and safeguard liberty," Brown said.

Fundamental rights in the state Constitution, including the right to marry that the state's high court has recognized, "become a dead letter if they can just be amended" by popular vote, Brown said.

Thank God someone is finally calling a spade a spade on Prop 8. It's not about revisions vs amendments. It's about fucking civil rights!!!! And civil rights should NEVER be put up to popular vote. It's never been done before.

Hmmmm, so notorious homophobe, Rick Warren, is going to be giving the invocation at President Obama's inauguration.

A lot of progressives have been alarmed at some of the appointments being made by Obama. They feel he's leaning too far to the right for cabinet and other officials. I, for one, have argued that we should give the guy a break. After all, he is the president of all Americans, and we don't all share the same view of where we want this country to go. I felt that Obama was making some good choices that would help to break up the partisan gridlock that we so often see in Washington.

But, now we have this. I suppose as X-tian right-wingers go, Rick Warren is somewhat better than most. After all, he does advocate for social justice, environmental care, etc. Sounds good on paper. But, oh wait. There's that little matter of comparing gay marriage to incest. And he wasn't exactly silent on Prop 8. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty fucking pissed.

What's a queer to do? Like so many things about this past election, we have been knocked around by a constant drumbeat of good news/bad news. Now, the president that we worked so hard to elect has slighted us by giving this Walmart evangelical a huge platform. Knowing how hurt we were by Prop 8, it is a huge slap in the face to give an inaugural platform to someone who worked so hard to get it passed.

Why not give Mike Huckabee the honor of providing the invocation at your inauguration? Oh wait, you probably have him busy preparing for his new job in your administration.

Another American Outrage...

In March 2007, three people were killed in a Houston office building fire.

The fire was started by a nurse who worked in one of the offices. She had neglected to finish her paperwork on time, and started the fire to cover it up. The nurse was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison for the arson/murders.

As outrageous as that is, it gets worse. One of the insurance companies for the building, Great America Insurance Company, is actually arguing in court that it should not be held liable for the deaths because the victims died from smoke inhalation, not the actual fire. There is an exclusion in the policy for deaths caused by "pollution," which is defined as seepage, spills, smoke, or soot. Excuse me, but aren't most fire deaths caused by smoke inhalation rather than actually being burned in the fire??????

This kind of outrageous bullshit has been going on far too long in this country. I hope the recent election is a sign that things will turn around, and WE THE PEOPLE will finally start taking back this country from big business.

I'm sure my little anonymous commenter who loves insurance companies is saying to himself that it was the victims' fault. They should have read the policy before they stupidly allowed themselves to die in an office fire.

Is it possible the old John McCain is back? In an interview on ABC's This Week on Sunday, McCain was asked if he would support Sarah Palin if she runs for president in the future, and he said he wasn't sure. When asked why he wasn't sure, he noted that there were many "great Republican governors" and he would have to see how things shake out.

WTF?? Isn't this the same Sarah Palin that McCain was willing to put one old man's heartbeat away from the presidency not so long ago?

I guess now that he doesn't need to suck the X-tian right wingnut's dick he can say what he really thinks.

Sad.

GAY-nauguration

What happens when you combine a nerd and a gay? You get a GAY BAND!

And honey, our gay band nerds will be strutting their stuff for President Obama's Inauguration on January 20.

The Obama Inauguration Committee has announced the Lesbian and Gay Band Association has been chosen to march in the Inauguration parade. LGBA is an umbrella group, with member bands from all over the country.

This will be the first time a gay organization has marched in the parade. Bill Clinton allowed gay bands to perform on the sidewalk, but they were not allowed in the parade itself.

There is NO justice in America

A Minnesota man is in trouble with the law for defending his property in a unique and innovative way.

Scott Wagar was pissed off because his property had been toilet papered several times by area teens. So, when he encountered a group a kids on his property about to do it again, he pulled out a Supersoaker full of Fox pee and sprayed it on them.

Now, Mr. Wagar is being charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and theft (because he took one of the kids' cell phone and held it for ransom).

OK, forgetting how weird it is to spray fox pee on someone, not to mention where the hell would you get enough to fill a supersoaker, am I the only one who thinks this is a travesty of justice???? The guy was defending his property. He had been harassed by the teen assholes before. They were trespassing. He applied a little harmless vigilante justice. Yet, HE'S the one in trouble?

What is wrong with this country?? Why is there no room for doing something stupid in our justice system anymore?? The guy didn't hurt those kids. He merely gave them a lesson they'll remember a long time, and probably laugh about when they get older.

Let's throw another one in the prison system. We haven't quite locked up half the country yet.

A Village In Texas Is About To Get Its' Idiot Back

Word is that George and Laura Bush have purchased a $3 million home in the ultra-swank Dallas neighborhood of Preston Hollow, which they will move into after they leave Washington.

There's something about this I find very comforting. Like a confirmation that he's actually going.

Dallas' loss is our gain.

I love the hypocrisy of X-tians. And one doesn't have to look very hard to find examples of it on a daily basis.

Case in point is the case of the Reverend Richard Cizik, a top leader with the National Association of Evangelicals, a political lobbying machine for the X-tian right. He has been forced from his position because, while being interviewed on NPR, he dared to suggest that....wait for it.....he is "shifting" on the issue of gay marriage. He stated that, while he is not yet comfortable with the idea of "redefining marriage," he IS in favor of Civil Unions to provide the same benefits and protections of marriage for gay people.

His second sin during the interview was to admit he voted for Obama in the primaries, and **GASP** he "hinted" that he voted for Obama in the general election.

Cizik was already on shaky ground with the X-tians for daring to suggest that we who inhabit this planet should be better caretakers of the creation God has given us. But, the uproar over the two NPR revelations was just too much, and he was forced from office.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these the same people who were all up in arms having a hissy fit because they were criticized, and their businesses boycotted, for supporting Prop 8???? It's funny how X-tians will call a boycott of a company for "supporting the gay agenda" so fast it will make your head spin. And now, they have devoured one of their own because he expressed an opinion that did not follow the standard X-tian line. Yet, God forbid we criticize or boycott them. We're infringing on their religious rights or their freedom of speech.

By the way, I have decided to use the term "X-tian" to distinguish the typical hypocritical, fundamentalist, legalistic American evangelicals who are not true believers, from true followers of Christ. Jesus gave two "commandments" to his followers: love God and love your neighbor. That's all a religion devoted to Him should worry about. All the rest is bullshit.
