Of all the disgusting things I've seen and heard during the campaign on 8, this, which I purloined from thechaserblog, absolutely takes the cake.

Apparently some churches in California have given these cards to parishioners and asked them to hand the cards out to children, along with the candy, on Halloween night. Doesn't that just turn your stomach?

It's not good enough to use children in their lies about same-sex marriage. Now they have to physically use the children to deliver the message.

If I had no strong opinion on Prop 8, and I saw this garbage, I would absolutely vote against it. What does it say about a group who has to stoop so low to try to get their message across?

TWELVE IMPORTANT REASONS WHY GAY MARRIAGE WILL DESTROY SOCIETY....

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spears's 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasn't changed at all: women are property, Blacks can't marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. That's why we only have one religion in America. [Which one would THAT be?]

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.

10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to cars or longer lifespans.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.

The above list was compiled by GatorGSA , a group of people who clearly have their heads screwed on straight, no pun intended

To "KirknStacy"

Those of us who are gay and lesbian, along with other opponents of Proposition 8, have no desire to take away your parental rights. They're your children. Raise them as you see fit.

In our country it's always been said that my rights end at the tip of my nose. And the problem is that my right to marry has absolutely no effect whatsoever on your family, your schools, or anything else. Yet, your insistence that the rest of us view marriage in the same way as you do completely violates my rights.

Parents have the right in California to pull their children out of classes which have objectionable material. There is absolutely nothing in the Supreme Court ruling allowing same-sex marriage which changes that. Churches will not be required to perform or recognize same-sex marriages. If you believe differently, you've bought into the Proposition 8 lies. Lies which have been refuted by esteemed legal scholars at BYU of all places.

As far as my "values" are concerned, I believe in loving others, charity, compassion for the less fortunate and downtrodden. I believe Jesus had a little something to say about that subject. I find it very interesting that the people who are aligned with the "Christian Right" don't really seem to follow the teachings of Christ.

By demeaning us, and our relationships, Christian extremists try to turn us into some kind of sub-human class. "Dirty," "Filthy," "Amoral." etc. That's a page right out of Hitler's playbook. Make the Jews less than human and it's easier to get the masses to go along with their extermination. Think I'm being overly-paranoid? It wasn't that long ago that gays and lesbians were dragged away to insane asylums just for being gay. Even today, there are parts of the world where one would be beheaded, or worse, if it was discovered he or she was gay.

If you can't have compassion for me, at least have compassion for those in your family, or extended family, who may be hiding the fact that they're gay. We're everywhere. Even in good Christian homes. I was a good Christian boy myself. I even majored in Theology in college, until I decided to stop living the lie and came out of the closet.

I don't expect you to understand me. I don't expect you to accept me. I don't expect you to like me. I would, however, like you to let me live my life with all the rights and responsibilities as an American citizen that you have. And that includes the right to marry.

God bless you too.

McCain just can't seem to catch a break......

At Six Flags in Vallejo, Vallerie the elephant picked Obama over McCain.

Polls...

The good news is that opposition to Prop 8 still holds the lead, although it is razor thin. The lead is also far less than earlier this year before the Mormon-led Yes On 8 campaign started spewing their lies about same-sex marriage.

The poll also shows how conflicted Californians are over the marriage issue. 65% agreed that "traditional marriage is a cornerstone of our Judeo-Christian heritage," but 61% agreed that Prop 8 "would deny one class of citizens the dignity and responsibility of marriage." 58% agreed that domestic partnership laws don't give same-sex couples "the same certainty and security that marriage laws provide."

Let's hope their better angels prevail on election day, and they will not feel right about taking away rights already established under the constitution.

This is going to be a tight one. Give what you can to No On 8. Every donation helps, no matter how small.

I am a little upset tonight.

Proposition 8 has been on my mind a lot lately. The polls are showing it's neck and neck between the supporters and opposition. I really don't know how things will turn out on Tuesday.

Over the years, I've been fired up about many elections. Passionately so. But never before have I felt so personal, so threatened, by an election as this one. It's one thing to have an anti same-sex marriage amendment passed in a state where you don't have the right to begin with. It's something completely different to have an established right stripped away from you. And that's exactly what will happen if Prop 8 passes. If, God forbid, this horrible amendment passes, I will feel like the state of California shit on me.

On my way home tonight, I had the misfortune of driving through a Yes on 8 demonstration at Webster and Atlantic. It wasn't that big. Maybe 30-40 people tops. But, as I drove by the demonstrators, I couldn't help but feel an incredible rage. These people were actively demonstrating to take rights away from ME. It's personal. This isn't some bond or school board issue. It's personal. It's discrimination against me. I wanted to take my car and plow right into the crowd. But, I settled for flipping them the bird as I drove by.

I couldn't help but notice that most of the people demonstrating were people who should be the most sensitive about matters of civil rights: people of color. Latinos, Asians, and African-Americans. But, apparently, they don't feel the same rights and protections they enjoy as Americans should apply to me.

Imagine how any one of them would have felt if the states banded together and passed a constitutional amendment allowing segregation after Brown vs Topeka Board of Education. Or a constitutional amendment which barred mixed-race marriages. It could have happened. It wasn't that long ago that many Americans felt separation of the races was "God's will." Hell, I had relatives who would quote scripture to justify their segregationst views.

Now these same people who benefit from the decisions of "activist" judges are completely comfortable with the idea of taking away my civil rights. It doesn't seem quite fair does it?

I hope Barack has some garlic cloves with him.....

here's a great editorial from today's San Diego Union Tribune....a conservative paper

When confronting the weighty question of whether to amend the state constitution, voters should make a decision based on common sense and fairness – not inflammatory television ads that generate more heat than light. But when the issue is as emotional as gay marriage, this may be too much to ask.

There has been a remarkable turnabout in the polls regarding Proposition 8, the initiative that would change the California Constitution to ban gay marriage. As recently as Sept. 18, according to a Field Poll, the initiative was losing by a significant margin – 55 percent to 38 percent. Today, according to more recent polling, the measure to bar same-sex marriage is suddenly slightly ahead.

What changed? For one thing, the “Yes on 8” forces have recently waged an offensive but terribly effective war on the airwaves to convince voters that, if they don't draw the line at gay marriage, before they know it their children will learn about same-sex unions in public school. How shameful. That is not what this debate is about. Parents have the right to be notified if such a thing is discussed in class, and to remove their children if necessary. The ads don't mention that.

Nor is this debate about the hubris of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, an outspoken supporter of gay marriage who a few months ago celebrated a legal victory by taunting the other side that marriage equality was coming “whether you like it or not.”

It was a dumb thing for Newsom to say, and now the statement is being prominently featured in hard-hitting radio and television ads put out by Proposition 8 supporters. Newsom comes across as arrogant in trying to force his wishes on everyone else.

Enough with these petty political games. This is serious business. Let's shelve the theatrics, and think about what would be best for all Californians. The answer begins with equal rights for everyone and a No vote on Proposition 8.

LOL! Like all the other shit John McCain has stepped into during this campaign, this Joe The Plumber thing has gotten better and better.

First of all his first name is not Joe, it's Sam. Secondly, the guy isn't even a plumber. Officially anyway. He doesn't hold a plumber's license. He claims he doesn't need a license because the company he works for has one. Not true, says the Toledo Building Division.

And it gets better! The guy owes $1,200 in back state income tax. The state of Ohio has put a lien on his house until the taxes are paid. No wonder he's so worried about taxes.

So this whole bullshit thing got started because "Joe" is concerned that if he ever makes over $250,000 (never gonna happen) he'll have to pay more taxes. And McCain tried to use this moron to embarrass Obama. But it blew up in his face.

Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame asshole.

meet joe the plumber

Katie Couric caught up with Joe The Plumber on the phone. In the interview, he admitted that he would not see a tax increase from Obama's plan, but was concerned that if Obama would raise taxes on those making over $250,000 today, what makes us think he won't drop it down to $100,000 tomorrow? Ah, that damned slippery slope.

He's also apparently a fan of tap dancing and practically called Obama Bojangles.

This guy is clearly a McCain supporter. Probably a plant. Nice to see it blew up in McCain's face according to the polls.

Maybe this was the ass-kicking that McCain referred to before the debate?

FUCK San Bruno!!!!

I guess I do live in somewhat of a bubble. During this whole election season, I have not seen one yard sign or bumper sticker supporting Prop 8. I have, however, seen many, many yard signs opposing Prop 8 here in Alameda.

And then, I went to San Bruno. For some odd reason, I was hankering to throw some money down in a little bit of gambling. So, after work today, I drove down to San Bruno intending to go to Artichoke Joe's Casino.

I say "intending" because I never made it. As soon as I got to San Bruno, I spotted a car with a "Yes on 8" bumper sticker. "Restore Marriage." it said. I thought that was odd considering that marriage hasn't gone anywhere. Then as I was driving through this little burgh to get to the casino, I noticed 3, count 'em, 3 yard signs supporting Prop 8.

At that point I said fuck this shit and I turned my car around and headed back into the city. I will never ever spend a dime in San Bruno because it's obviously full of bigots. And I encourage you to adopt the same stance. If you have to fill up on the way to the airport, stop in South San Francisco. Don't patronize San Bruno!

Remember those "Yes on 8" ads featuring the legal opinions of "Pepperdine University Law Professor Richard Peterson?" You know. The ads that claimed same sex marriage in California would bring about the end of the world as we know it? That religious groups would be sued for speaking out against same sex marriage? That churches would lose their tax exemption for not recognize same sex marriage? That your second grader would be forced to learn about same sex marriage in school? All lies!!!

Well, kudos to Pepperdine University. Apparently a lot of alums got pissed off that their alma mater was being used in this hateful campaign. Pepperdine contacted the "Yes on 8" assholes and demanded that Peterson's affiliation with the university be removed from the ad. A statement released by the university said "we would like to stress that the professor does not represent a university-endorsed position, as the university does not take a stand on candidates or ballot issues."

So the ads were full of lies, AND the lies were presented by someone who didn't even have the backing of his own university. Kind of tells you how desperate these guys are.

By the way, Proposition 8 has not received editorial backing from ANY California newspaper. Even the conservative papers like the San Diego Union Tribune and the Orange County Register have urged their readers to vote NO on 8!

who the fuck is joe the plumber?????

Well we apparently have a new American icon, Joe the plumber. John McCain brought the guy up in an effort to portray Obama as someone who was going to raise every one's taxes.

Unfortunately for McCain, nobody gives a shit. If you watched the CNN focus group after the debate, it was obvious that Joe was actually a turn off for the undecideds.

I was a little worried at first. It seemed like McCain was a lot more fiery than in previous debates. Obama also seemed a little flat at first. But McCain didn't let me down. He brought out the nasty, cranky old man, and his numbers went down.

My favorite moment came when Supreme Court justices came up, and Roe v Wade specifically. McCain did this big song and dance about how he would never use a litmus test when appointing a justice. He would only look at their qualifications. Of course, he then completely contradicted himself by saying that a judge who would vote in favor of Roe v Wade wouldn't be qualified to be a judge. What a moron.

The after debate polls showed that Obama won this debate...three in a row. November 4 can't come soon enough for me.

Neal Hefti died this week at 85. In case you're unfamiliar, he's the composer who wrote the original Batman theme as seen on ABC. Those of us who were children in the 60's have fond memories of our twice weekly adventures with Batman and Robin.

Gee, isn't this classy. Some old dude at a Palin rally in Johnstown, PA holding up a monkey doll with an Obama hat on it. Can't imagine what that signifies. I know my ex will get all wet "down there" over this guy. But let's call him what he is. He is a fucking white trash, racist, hillbilly. And that's exactly the kind of people who are supporting McCain/Palin for a third Bush term.

those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it......

I came across some interesting statistics from a specific decade in American history. They sound frighteningly familiar......

*Government spending grew three times larger than revenues

*Organized labor declined. The United Mine Workers membership dropped from 500,000 to 75,000. The AFL membership dropped from 5.1 million to 3.4 million

*1,200 mergers swallowed up more than 6,000 previously independent companies

*The top income tax rate was cut from 73% to 25%

*1% of Americans accumulated 40% of the wealth.

*The bottom 93% of Americans saw real disposable income decline 4%

*Individual worker productivity increased 43% during the decade, but the rewards went to the top. The number of individuals making more than $500,000 increased by 1000%, but that was still only 1% of the population

*Conservative Supreme Court overturns progressive legislation, like child labor and minimum wage laws

*The stock market sees an incredible rise. In one year alone, the average price of stocks went up 40%, but the boom is mostly artificial, and is not reflected in the rest of the economy

Any of this sound familiar? This is not a history of present day America. These are all events that happened during the 1920's, the decade that preceded the Great Depression.

Have a nice day.

The Satirical Political Report has gotten hold of the script from John McCain's newest attack ad, which is now being produced.

(Announcer)

Barack Obama...secretly involved in a gay wedding to Weather Underground radical William Ayers, in a ceremony performed by a Muslim cleric, and openly consummated in front of kindergartners.

Barack Obama. Not just bad for America. But bad even for Showtime and HBO.

two down.....

I'm starting to feel a lot more optimistic after watching tonight's debate and the subsequent polls that came out tonight.

All the pundits were saying this was a "do or die" night for McCain. He didn't do. Not at all.

It seemed like McCain's answer to everything was "stopping earmarks." What is the cure for cancer? Stopping earmarks. How do we achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East? Stopping earmarks.

At times, he seemed almost crotchety. The worst moment of crotchetiness was when he pointed at Obama and said "that one" while talking about a bill he voted against and Obama voted for. My God, how fucking condescending was that????

Between McCain's crotchetiness and Brokaw's whining about the candidates not following the rules, it's no wonder Obama stole the show. He sat there and smiled. He looked very presidential. Like he had no care in the world.

Let's hope the tide keeps shifting to Obama all the way to election day.

It's Fleet Week in San Francisco!!!

Yummy young sailors walking the streets looking for a good time. Oh yeah, the Blue Angels will be performing and some other shit, too.

But don't forget those yummy young sailors walking the streets. And, if your walk happens to take you down Harrison Street, be sure to stop into the Lone Star. I'll be there waiting to welcome you.

Info on San Francisco Fleet Week.

she paid the ultimate price.....

Buffy the German Shepherd has been honored posthumously by the Humane Society of the United States. She has been named "Valor Dog Of The Year" because she saved her owner from a robber at his Oakland home back in January. Unfortunately, she died after being shot in the leg by the robber. She had a previously undiagnosed kidney condition that was exacerbated by blood loss from the gunshot wound.

No arrest has been made in the case. I hope that guy has met his own grisly fate in the ensuing months.

McCain abandons Michigan.....

John McCain has announced he is conceding Michigan, and its' 17 electoral votes, to Barack Obama. He is closing up shop and cancelling all visits to the state between now and the election.

Sounds a little like "cutting and running" to me. Why is it OK to "cut and run" in Michigan, but not Iraq?
