The right wing X-tian nuts believe one day the stars will align, they will be "raptured" (a word not in the Bible), and the rest of us will be left behind to fend for ourselves during a seven year period of tribulation, which will culminate in the great battle of Armageddon, which will usher in a 1,000 year millennial reign of peace on Earth.
They know all of this is just around the corner. It could be tomorrow. It could be today. It will be soon, because the "signs" tell them so. Of course, they've been saying this for years. But the world has gone on.
But now, something has happened that makes me pause for a second. Maybe they're right. Pat Robertson, in a CNN interview, criticized George Bush, and had high praise for President-elect Obama. Pat Robertson???? Really?????
So many of Robertson's ilk have supported Bush just because of his "faith." It didn't matter the man is a bumbling idiot. It didn't matter that he lied us into a war. It didn't matter that he completed the job started by their demi-god Ronald Reagan by destroying the economy, and the middle-class along with it. Bush had "faith" and that was good enough for them.
Robertson gives Bush a C- as a president. He complains Bush botched Iraq, botched Katrina, and botched the economy. Of Obama, he says he is "remarkably pleased" and that he believes Obama has "the makings of a great president."
That's got to be a sign the end is near. The forecast is calling for raining frogs and hail the size of houses.
