I went on a date last night. An honest to God date, with dinner and a movie, the whole thing. My friend Chris just moved here from San Francisco. We've been trying to go out for a couple of weeks, but both our jobs kept interfering. So last night we finally took the plunge.

We went downtown to the Angelika to see Disturbia. He bought popcorn and a candy bar. I've been trying to lose weight so I bought a bag of dried fruit. YUCK. That was nasty. But, I was proud of myself that I didn't cave and get something less healthy.

I really enjoyed the movie. It went back and forth from lighthearted to very intense. Shia LeBeouf is one of my new favorite hotties.

I remember seeing him the first time in I Robot where he played a street tough wannabe, and then again in Constantine where he played an exorcist wannabe. He plays this high school kid who starts out the movie as a good boy, and then loses he way and gets into trouble as the result of a family tragedy. But, in the end, he redeems himself and all is well.
What really freaked me out was seeing David Morse play the bad guy. I haven't followed his career that much, but I'm used to seeing him as the good guy in things like St Elsewhere and Contact, where he played Jodie Foster's kind and gentle dad. Well, kind and gentle he was not in Disturbia. He made my skin crawl.
The movie is not gory at all. It's more of a psychological thriller than anything else, and that's always the best kind.
