This is one of those things that won't get covered in the mainstream press. I actually found this story in "Stars And Stripes" of all places.The House is preparing to pass the defense spending legislation for 2008, but the White House is opposing certain parts of the legislation that benefit the military.
One of the issues is the 2008 pay increase. The White House proposed a 3% increase, while the House wants a 3.5% increase. Boy, that extra .5% is going to really kill the country, especially when you consider the lowest enlisted pay runs about $15,000 a year.
The White House also wants the ability to increase medical care fees for retired military personnel, and the House doesn't.
This is just another example of what a fucking hypocrite Dubya is. He claims to be a war president, but he does everything in his power to step on the little guy in the military.
Let's not forget the fact that he used his daddy's influence to stay out of Vietnam, and didn't even fulfill his responsibilities to the Texas Air National Guard. Can you say "AWOL."
Of course, it shouldn't surprise anyone who looks at his record. I learned a long time ago that whatever Dubya espouses in public, expect the exact opposite in reality.
