The theme was "white trash weekend," so on Friday I broke my "never shop at Walmart" rule because I needed some white trash clothes. I picked up a couple of appropriate t-shirts to go along with the camo shorts a friend gave me.
Here's a pic of me in my Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt.
Friday night was a typical bar night at the Undercurrent. Pretty big crowd. I think a lot of guys came down from Houston just to hang out at the bar Friday night. Then went their own ways Saturday.
Saturday was beach day. I didn't go to sleep until 5 o'clock Saturday morning, so I was late getting to the beach. They had a nice setup with tents, etc. It was kind of funny watching the breeders walk by our area. Of course there were the obligatory beach games. And several times butts and cocks were exposed. The water actually looked fairly clean, which is unusual for Galveston. So I went in the water. I haven't been in the water in Galveston since something like 1968.
Then it was back to the hotel for dinner and the evening pool party. I got pretty wasted on margaritas and crashed around 11PM. I knew it was time to go to my room when I was talking to a friend and dozed off with my head on his shoulder. Woke up about 11 this morning and packed and headed back to Houston.
This year's Bearwatch didn't have the same sleaze factor as I had heard from year's past. It's probably because we were in a nice hotel. Previous Bearwatch's have always been held at the Sandpiper, which is just one step up from one of those rent by the hour hotels. So things were a little more subdued than I expected. And I heard some complaints from Bearwatch veterans about that. But, one has to make choices in this world, and I suppose it's better to have a little less sleaze and a clean bed to sleep in than the opposite.
